Marieke graduated this year as a theatre designer, set designer, and costume designer. The jury sees her as "a young creator who uses theatre as a means of expressing both her investigative and performing side. She communicates her vision clearly and combines artistic practice with social importance."
The jury members found her work both visually and conceptually strong. Marieke's two graduation projects are stimulating and have piqued the interest of all the jury members. "In her designs, she navigates between convention, imagination, and innovation. She expresses her dream in a social investigation of water, which she intends to continue with a theatrical presentation. We see great potential in her for the future."
Marieke's commitment to water is evident in one of her productions, where actors are splashed in the face with a huge bucket of water on stage. She's not sure yet what she plans to do with the €5,000 Hustinx Prize: "Maybe I'll cycle to various rivers and collect the stories there."
