The Henriëtte Hustinx Awards were established to emphasise the importance of the courses provided at the art faculties of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences for the South Limburg society.
Every year, each art faculty awards a Henriëtte Hustinx Prize, consisting of a €5,000 cash prize, to one individual or a collective. At the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts, the prize is awarded to a promising young artist with the aim of providing a positive boost to a budding professional practice.
Edmond Hustinx established the award in honor of his sister Henriëtte, who excelled in various disciplines as an artist, violinist in the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra, and teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts. Between 1962 and 1991, this award was presented under the names 'Academy of Fine Arts Award' and 'Henriëtte Hustinx Art Awards'.
