The Hustinx Science Award was established in 2011 to mark the foundation's fiftieth anniversary. The prize underscores the practical significance of science and the importance of the programs offered at Maastricht University faculties to the community of South Limburg. The Hustinx Science Award entails €15,000.
The award is presented at the opening of the academic year at Maastricht University. Each year a different faculty is given the opportunity to nominate a promising young researcher in its research domain.
Between 1987 and 2003, the 'Edmond Hustinx Prize for Science' was established to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Hustinx Foundation. This prize, endowed with €7,500 (15,000 guilders), was intended for a researcher affiliated with Maastricht University.
